Health Improv

Helping caring professionals care for themselves

"If you carrot all for others, you can care for yourself."

We help individuals and organizations prioritize self-care, recognizing that those who provide care for others are often the ones who need the most support to care for themselves.

Our goal is to inspire people to have fun and enjoy taking care of themselves, relying on evidence-based and evidence-informed practices to create success.

To borrow from a famous quote by Allen Saunders, “Life is what happens to us while we are making other plans”...
Health is often what happens when we’re busy making other plans.
Because we’re not always thinking of our health, it’s easy to end up with what can be called “default health” - which is what we get when we “always meant to” get around to taking care of ourselves.
Health Improv is a way to recognize that while some things in life are under our control, there are many things that are out of our control and even our best laid plans go off-script some days. We can learn to balance taking care of ourselves AND accepting what life offers us every day.
Health Improv is about finding a happy medium between rigid rules and ignoring our health until something demands our attention.
Health Improv is an approach that encourages an intentional healthy lifestyle and healthy mindset with room for flexibility and spontaneity so we can still enjoy this ride called life.
About the Science/Evidence-based Approaches we use

-
Health and Wellness coaching is an evidence-based practice where coaches facilitate a client's own self-discovery and personal growth. It is a way of helping people achieve a higher level of well-being, especially when change is hard.
-
Appreciative Inquiry - Many of our Workshops are based upon the 5 D's of Appreciative Inquiry – Define, Discover, Dream, Design and Deploy, a process developed by David Cooperrider (Case Western Reserve) in the 1980s as a method of organizational development. This approach has been widely used in business and organizations and adopted by several other fields, including coaching. It is based on the positive psychology of supporting positive change, building on strengths, generating energy, and encouraging creativity and innovation.

Psychological Capital (PsyCap), The "HERO within" describes the psychological resources that make up PsyCap, a heavily studied area originally developed by Fred Luthans, also based on positive psychology, through the lens of Positive Organizational Behavior. Hope, Efficacy, Resilience and Optimism are the components of PsyCap and are associated with satisfaction with important life domains such as work, relationships, and health. PsyCap is open to change and development. Actively pursuing and making progress on important goals can help sustain physical and mental/emotional well-being.
